The new song off their upcoming record To Those Left Behind (to be released on september 18th) is now out.
Beau Bokan has said about this record « As a band we are constantly trying to outdo ourselves and take a step forward with each record. With this new album we’ve taken a giant fucking leap forward and are at our absolute best as musicians and song writers. We’re looking forward to seeing where this album will take us. »
Forever in Combat has announced on their Facebook page that their upcoming song « Lucid Dreams » featuring Asking Alexandria‘s Denis Stoff won’t come out because of Sumerian Records. The band hasn’t given much details, but precise that « they are still fighting » to release it.

Note that we are still fighting to release « Lucid Dreams, » however Sumerian Records (Denis Stoff’s Label) has blocked us from this release for the time being.

Abderrahim: At first, thank you for the new album and also for all the music you have shared with us.
Candice: Thank you. We’re really enjoying our musical journey. This year will be 18 years of the bands existence. Just enjoying each step.
Abderrahim: How are you and I hope you are doing good so far?
Candice: Doing well. On tour now in Germany and I can not believe how hot it is! Like Caribbean hot without the sea breezes or piña coladas. But we had our 1st concert of the tour last night and played for two and a half hours and it felt so good to get back on that stage after a year away from it.
Abderrahim: Can you tell me about your last release?
Candice: Our newest release is called All Our Yesterdays and will be available in September. There are 2 CDs, a regular edition and one with additional bonus video footage and 2 music videos. Each time we release a cd it always seems to be a true snapshot in time of where we are as a band and as humans since we are always learning, experiencing and evolving. So we have a general theme to our music as some of it is based on melodies from hundreds of years ago but some of the songs are cover versions of songs you may be surprised about coming from us like Moonlight Shadow or I Got You Babe. Then of course there is some rock, some ballads and some songs that touch on the supernatural and other worlds.
Abderrahim: Why did you decide to release it at this moment?
Candice: We usually release a cd each year or at least every two years. It took us about a year to create this cd but not continuously. What we tend to do is record a few songs then go on the road to tour. It gives us a chance to get away from the recording process and hear the song with fresh ears because we can get away from it for a while. Then we can revisit those songs to see if they’re working or need to be reworked as well as recording the next group of songs. We find its a healthier process instead of locking ourselves in a studio for a month and not getting a break from the recording process at all.
Abderrahim: Is it a tale or a concept album from last ages?
Candice: We never have a worked out concept for the CDs. We don’t lead the music in a particular direction. The music leads us.
Abderrahim: Who write the lyrics? the music? and what are the themes? could you give me details about the album?
Candice: Ritchie usually comes up with the musical ideas 1st. Once he has an idea we go through the melody line together and see if it has promise. Once we settle on the top line I take the melody and I need to be alone with it…somewhere, anywhere. Maybe driving or walking through the woods. I try to channel the song and paint the pictures I see in my head through the melody into words. Then once it’s all together we go into the studio and add the extra instrumentation where I’ll be playing all the woodwind instruments and Ritchie handles the string instruments from guitars to hurdy Gurdys to Mandola etc. the rest of the band comes in to do their parts and our producer pat regan adds the extra touches. The only song that was a bit different on this release is earth wind and sky which I wrote myself for my solo cd but wound up using it on the bn release instead.
Abderrahim: I really like your voice and your performance ( I still listen to the village Lantern and that doesnt mean that I dislike the others no :) ), can you tell me about your influences?
Candice: Thank you. I listen to many varieties of music and musicians but I don’t think I emulate them. I listen to them as an escape from the stress of the industry. And they’re so varied but I like them all for different reasons. Sarah Brightman, Lambretta, Joan Osborne, all about eve, Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac , Maggie Reilly, Pink, Kelly Clarkson and of course many classic rock and hard rock bands from the 70s and 80s. Too many to mention of that genre.
Abderrahim: What is your first instrument? First buying album? first show? and your first own performance?
Candice: First instrument besides voice lessons going back to the age of 4 would be piano which I have all but lost at this point. I still write my demos on piano for new songs though. But I began with the penny whistle in this band and have since learned about 10 different reed instruments to supplement the instrumental sound in blackmores night. My first album that I ever bought with my own money was rainbow down to earth. Ironic isn’t it? First show was Bryan Adams in 1985. First own performance not as a back up singer but front and center was in Japan Tokyo in 1997 in front of 5,000 people and terrified. That was a long time ago.
Abderrahim: What can you tell me about Blackmore’s night experience?
Candice: It’s incredible. To be able to not only be supportive of your husband in what he’s doing but to be able to work together as a team and with such a musical genius each day goes beyond words. He blows me away on stage every night. I love that we can play any style of music we want at anytime. Once you taste that music freedom it’s hard to go back into a box of one genre. Plus we make it a great fantasy escape. Reinvent ourselves through new identity our costumes. And the whole band is so close. A group of friends . It’s just really fun to go onstage each night.
Abderrahim: How is Ritchie ?
Candice: He’s great. Playing better than ever. We never know as a band what he’s going to play next so we just watch him very carefully and keep up with the ride. He’s quite unpredictable on stage never playing the same song the same way twice and changing the set list each night. And then of course off stage he’s up to his usual practical jokes so…it’s always interesting.
Abderrahim: If I ask you to choose your favorite album from BN? What about the songs? And the songs from this album?
Candice: That’s hard. Like choosing your favorite child. I loved the innocence of the 1st one. Or that we got more orchestral in ghost of a rose. Or started adding wood winds in fires at midnight. Each one was a step in a certain direction. A moment in time like looking at old photo albums you get nostalgic. I think dancer and the moon was really great and secret voyage too. I think the circle is one of my favorite songs. Locked within the crystal ball I really love also if I’m in a rock mood. But if I’m reflective it would be believe in me or empty words. On the latest cd my favorites are will o the wisp and the other side.
Abderrahim: Are you satisfied about what you have done so far?
I don’t know if you’r’ ever satisfied. You always feel like you could have done something better or that it doesn’t exactly sound like what you envisioned in your head. But I love the songs and I love what we do.
Abderrahim: Have you ever been to Africa? To Morocco?
Candice: I never have been. Closest I got was Gibraltar where I actually got bitten by a Barbaray ape. That was the only tattoo I ever entertained getting because the teeth marks when it bruised were so clear you could’ve identified that ape by his dental records.
Abderrahim: Could you tell me something about « Light the universe » performance with Helloween? How come and who has the idea?
Candice: We had the same record label and I was in the studio with blackmores night at the time. The record co said that they were looking for someone to do their first duet with. I won’t do a song unless I love the song so I played the song and instantly fell in love with it. I recorded my part and they sent it to them on tour in Japan and they really liked what I did. They wanted to film a video so we finally got to meet up in schools weldenstein where we originally recorded castles and dreams. I think they flew in from their tour from Sweden to do the video. They’re a really great group of guys. We had a lot of laughs while filming the video.
Abderrahim: Could you comment on the current situation in the world?
Candice: Hard to do. Ritchie would say serious but not hopeless. I’m afraid to watch the news because it’s terrifying but I’m afraid not to because I want to stay informed. It depends also on which aspect you’re referring to. There is so much beauty in the world to enjoy amidst so much negativity. I try to focus on that and stay hopeful. But sometimes melancholy thoughts are better for song writing. More dimension to it.
Abderrahim: Thank you very much and send my best regards to Ritchie and tell that I am fan of Deep Purple and DP dicedoesn’t sound the same since he left after the 93 Battle Rages On and no one can play Anya and other DP tracks like him :)

Le mardi 30 juin était attendue l’arrivée du nouveau service de streaming musical made by Apple tout simplement nommé Apple Music. Nous allons passer tous les détails techniques, rumeurs et faits qui auraient pu retarder ou foirer le lancement (cliquer ici pour avoir une multitude d’articles). Toutefois il est vrai qu’Apple est craint, en partie par son statut de leader technologique et par ses annonces « révolutionnaires », il pourrait faire de l’ombre à des Deezer ou Spotify bien installés depuis des années.
Apple Music pourrait il offrir de quoi satisfaire des fans de metal (et autres) ?
Avant de découvrir le service il obligatoire de passer par la case mise à jour vers iOS 8.4 pour iPhone/iPad ou iTunes 12.2. Bien que j’essaye de rester focalisé sur le service en lui-même mon côté geek tient à préciser que pour une fois le logiciel ne demande pas 4GO de libre pour se mettre à jour, le géant a fait un effort cette fois.
Première nouveauté: le design. L’appli musique de voit offrir un nouveau look. Dès son ouverture le service fait son apparition et l’on comprend qu’il va falloir payer. Coucou l’essai gratuit de 3 mois.
C’est toute l’esthétique de Musique qui a ici été repensé, finit les catégories en bas de page avec le cheminement playlist/artiste/chanson/album/autre. A présent nous avons droit à Ma Musique, Pour vous, Nouveautés, Radio, Connect. Les 4 nouveautés sont toutes liées au streaming. L’aperçu plutôt agréable fait évidemment penser à un mélange entre iTunes Store et Spotify, un belle photo du groupe, les albums classés du plus récent au plus vieux comme ici avec les Chunk!
Je me suis précipité sur les radios censées être révolutionnaires et pour tous les goûts, j’ai choisi la radio Hard Rock mais un petit problème est arrivé.
Sur connect nous avons accès à un service social, ou presque, où l’on peut suivre l’actualité de nos artiste préférés. Même Nirvana. Quelle activité pour eux d’ailleurs ? Aucune idée, cliquer sur les groupes de nous amène à rien, on ne sait pas pourquoi suivre ces groupes.
La critique est facile, certes, c’est vrai que le service vient de sortir et donc on ne peut s’attendre à ce qu’il soit entièrement opérationnel.
Pour revenir sur les radios, Apple nous offre quand même une sacrée offre avec de nombreuses playlists jouées H24. Et effectivement, il y en a pour tous les goûts. Le seul problème est que je n’avais encore pu capter que Beats One avec Julie Adenuga en tant que présentatrice depuis Londes. Beats One est une véritable radio et non pas une playlist comme je m’y attendais. Mais cette radio m’a gonflé assez rapidement avec ses titres oscillant entre rap, electro, auto-tune non modérée. Toutes les autres radios n’ont pas l’air de fonctionner (j’ai soit une connexion naze, soit pas de chance, ou alors ca ne marche tout simplement pas.)
A propos des tarifs, Apple propose deux offres: une à 9.99€ pour un abonnement indivuel, et une à 14.99€ pour la formule famille (six personnes max). Niveau tarif cela reste competitif en s’alignant sur les autres, sauf pour le forfait famille.
Une fois l’abonnement démarré (du moins les 3 mois gratuits) Apple demande quels genres de musique j’aime. Étonnant pour quelqu’un qui a accès à ma bibliothèque !
S’en suit quelques questions sur des artistes pour savoir si je les apprécie. Les questions ne prennent apparemment pas cas des réponses précedentes: en ayant indiqué que j’aimais le metal, l’alternatif, le rock; iTunes n’a rien trouvé de mieux que Johnny Halliday et Iron Maiden à me suggerer. Bref. On retrouve des playlists de leurs partenaires dont Vice, Rolling Stone, NME ou encore Shazam. Ce n’est pas dégueu en plus.
Apple Music propose une vaste choix d’artistes, combinant le catalogue d’iTunes Store en y ajoutant certaines exclus (Taylor Swift, qui a osé pousser un coup de gueule contre eux est en fin de compte rentré chez eux en retirant ses titres de Spotify.)
A 10h les radios ont fonctionné pour moi: j’ai eu droit à du Korn, Muse, Death Cab For Cutie, Falling In Reverse et Linkin Park. Le son est en très bonne qualité, contrairement à ce qui avait pu être annoncé.
A chaud, je dirais que le service d’Apple est convaincant. Le catalogue est véritablement vaste et il y en a pour tous les goûts. Quand iTunes est parfois le seul moyen de se procurer (légalement) à un prix raisonnable les albums de certains groupes, le streaming offert avec cette qualité est le bienvenu ! Alors Apple va t’il gagner le marché du streaming ?
Ses points forts: un design repensé et très agréable, un catalogue très vaste, un service de recommandation intelligent (sauf au début de la configuration, d’accord), un son en haute qualité, et bien sûr, un papa qui s’appelle Apple. Donc Apple Music plaira à tout le monde, dont vous les lecteurs de Ride The Sky!
Mais, attendez, il me semble qu’il existe un truc qui s’appelle YouTube et qui est gratuit sur lequel les labels mettent eux même les albums… Car oui, le bémol posé par ce nouveau service est qu’il n’existe aucune version gratuite contrairement à ses concurrents ! Apple vous permet uniquement, si connecté avec votre identifiant, d’écouter Beats One, la radio internationale relayée sur 3 antennes en diffusion non stop.
*Note: je ne suis absolument pas un habitué du streaming, à part peut être Youtube. Je n’ai pas le réflexe Spotify, Deezer ou autre et je ne pense que je l’aurais un jour. Du coup, quand les 3 mois d’essai seront passés je ne renouvellerai pas.
MAJ: 1 semaine après
Léger bilan après une semaine d’utilisation. La possibilité de rendre les morceaux choisis disponible en hors ligne (c.a.d. de les télécharger gratuitement et de pouvoir les ré-écouter à volonté) est très agréable, la qualité de son est véritablement bonne et les playlists sont intuitives. Beats1 est également une radio axée sur la découverte, ses DJs nous proposent tous les trois des styles de musique variés, loin d’être commerciaux. J’y ai découvert de nombreux artistes de tout horizons.
Concernant les playlists, celle du hardrock est assez faible malheureusement. Toutefois d’autres comme celle des Crooners ou la Soul&Funk sont excellentes.
Par contre, ces MAJ nous apportant Apple Music ont quelques défauts. Premièrement, la synchronisation. Avant il nous été demandé de choisir les titres, artistes, playlists à synchroniser et à mettre sur nos iphones. Vous en déduirez que ce n’est plus le cas aujourd’hui. L’iPhone connecté à votre Mac ou ordinateur ne permet pas de sélectionner la musique voulue (car il y a synchronisation via le cloud entre la bibliothèque de l’ordi et l’appareil). C’est assez génant en fin de compte. De plus, la synchronisation a modifié les infos de nos titres, allant à changer les illustrations d’albums (exemple: pour l’album American Idiot de Green Day, lors de l’écoute je me suis retrouvé face à pas moins de 5 illustrations differentes, Apple Music préférant nous montrer celles des singles) jusqu’à parfois même changer les noms des pistes. Il fait des erreurs, mais m’a aussi corrigé certaines pistes qui n’avaient pas le nom de l’album ou la bonne année de sortie. Donc bon, mais pas parfait.
Autre point assez gênant; sur iPhone le tri par artiste ne montre que les albums mais plus les listing de ceux ci directement. Je m’explique, je prend l’envie d’écouter Sleeping With Sirens, sans choisir un morceaux particulier. Je clique sur le groupe, et j’ai la liste des albums présent (ici, Madness, Feell, Soundtrack EP, Iris, Let’s Cheer et Ears/Eyes), mais je ne vois que les albums. Pour les titres, il me faut choisir un album. Avant, l’on avait directement les titres listés par albums, et la possibilité de lancer toutes les pistes. C’est un détail, mais légèrement dérangeant.
Le principe d' »adorer » un titre (cad y mettre un coeur) ne nous sert pas véritablement, on aurait s’attendre à ce qu’une playlist recense tout ces titres (qui est possible mais il faut le configurer dans les playlists intelligentes) mais elle ne sert qu’en réalité à Apple qui grâce à nos coups de cœur nous suggère des groupes plus susceptibles d’être appréciés.
En conclusion, je pense qu’Apple nous a offert un service convaincant et complet, mais qu’au nom d’une refonte du design la Musique en perdu en simplicité et surtout en intuition. Le géant californien sait que des réclamations on été faites et sortiront apparemment une nouvelle mise à jour avant iOS9 prévu en septembre / octobre afin de corriger tout ça. Apple Music ? C’est presque parfait !
Asking Alexandria has announced Denis Shaforostov as their new singer quite recently when releasing new track « I Won’t Give In ». Since then, the band has been on the road playing in multiple festivals in Europe and many videos came on the internet. Their show at Graspop Festival is the very first show in good quality with Denis.
I personally think Denis is a really talented singer, so was Danny. Shaforostov is as good with both growls and screams, and acts like a real frontman. Despite the « I Won’t Give » performance, rumoured to be lip-sing, AA has delivered a really good show.
This is 100% my own opinion, but I’ve never seen such good live performances with tracks such as Not The American Average & A Prophecy, AA »s classic songs.

Spanish band A Reason To Breathe have revealed the tracklist of their debut album that will come out this autumn. An Ocean Inside Me have been recorded in Valencia, Spain and mixed in Poland. The first single « We Will Be Legend » is expected to be released next week.

French metalcore band Chasing After Time is back with a brand new song titled « The Final Fight ». The song follows the 2013 Fetch & Execute EP (read it here / only available in French), an EP that I recommend to any Issues or A Day To Remember fan.
The band hasn’t said a word concerning a possible new EP or even a full length. Mixed at History Records, the song is a powerful track inspired by Issues with heavy breakdowns, catchy cleans and a nice scratchy DJ sound.
Guitar player Tom Searle announced on Twitter that he and his brother started to work on new Architects material.
The band latest record Lost Forever // Lost Together came out in 2013 and received the Kerrang! Award for the « Best Album »
