Asking Alexandria has announced Denis Shaforostov as their new singer quite recently when releasing new track « I Won’t Give In ». Since then, the band has been on the road playing in multiple festivals in Europe and many videos came on the internet. Their show at Graspop Festival is the very first show in good quality with Denis.
I personally think Denis is a really talented singer, so was Danny. Shaforostov is as good with both growls and screams, and acts like a real frontman. Despite the « I Won’t Give » performance, rumoured to be lip-sing, AA has delivered a really good show.
This is 100% my own opinion, but I’ve never seen such good live performances with tracks such as Not The American Average & A Prophecy, AA »s classic songs.

Spanish band A Reason To Breathe have revealed the tracklist of their debut album that will come out this autumn. An Ocean Inside Me have been recorded in Valencia, Spain and mixed in Poland. The first single « We Will Be Legend » is expected to be released next week.

French metalcore band Chasing After Time is back with a brand new song titled « The Final Fight ». The song follows the 2013 Fetch & Execute EP (read it here / only available in French), an EP that I recommend to any Issues or A Day To Remember fan.
The band hasn’t said a word concerning a possible new EP or even a full length. Mixed at History Records, the song is a powerful track inspired by Issues with heavy breakdowns, catchy cleans and a nice scratchy DJ sound.
On ne présente plus ce groupe culte qu’est Muse. Leur septième album « Drones », était très attendu par les fans du fait qu’il promettait un retour aux sources. Celles ou le Heavy était plus présent, et se nouait parfaitement avec les claviers. La promesse est-elle tenue ?
Et bien pas entièrement. Pourtant, « Drones » reste globalement pour moi, un bon album. Il souffre tout de même d’un certain nombre de défauts : L’un d’eux me paraît mineur, il s’agit du manque d’originalité des trois premiers morceaux (« Dead Inside » reprend la structure de « Madness », « Pyscho » un rift classique, et « Mercy » les sonorités de « Starlight »). Vous me direz alors, qu’il est normal que le groupe pioche dans quelque-unes de leurs vielles idées, puisque l’album collide avec ses débuts. Ce à quoi je répond, il est possible de faire hommage à sa carrière tout en restant entièrement créatif. J’ajouterai cependant, que ce n’est pas parce qu’une chanson ne propose rien de nouveau, qu’elle en devient mauvaise pour autant. Et effectivement, les trois premiers titres restent efficaces. Cela explique donc pourquoi je ne parlais que de défaut mineur.
Le véritable bémol de « Drones » selon moi, est tout simplement sa promotion, sa communication : le fait est qu’il ne donne qu’à moitié ce qu’il avait certifié. On n’a autant de morceaux Pop, d’expérimentations ou de ballades (« Mercy », « Revolt », « Aftermath », « Drones »), que de morceaux purement rock (« Psycho », « Reapers », « The Handler », « Defector ») inspirés de leurs premières productions. Le problème ne vient pas des chansons en elles-mêmes, mais bien de la demi-fausseté des déclarations. Je pense qu’il aurait mieux valu annoncer le retour en force du rock avec plus de retenue. Il est dommage aussi, qu’autant de titres aient été dévoilés avant sa sortie.
Malgré tout, ce septième opus demeure un vrai petit plaisir dans son ensemble. Notamment grâce à des élans de génie tel que « Reapers », qui est vraiment le genre de morceau que j’attendais : à savoir, du rock/heavy tonique et imaginatif, parfaitement produit. J’ai été bluffé également par l’audace de la chanson éponyme : cette idée qui ne se base que sur des couches de voix superposées, est tout bonnement excellente.
Je trouve que certains éléments ont été injustement critiqués. On parle par exemple du manque de subtilité des paroles par rapport au thème abordé. Mais je pense justement que quand on évoque le sujet de la manipulation militaire ou technologique, l’objectif n’est pas forcément celui de la subtilité. Enfin, contrairement à beaucoup, j’ai aimé « Revolt » qui je crois, aspire à des plaisirs simples.
Cette longue chronique sera synthétisée en quelques mots : L’œuvre n’est pas absolument ce qu’elle promettait être, mais c’est peut être paradoxalement, ce qui en fait son charme.

Helloween est un célèbre groupe de Power Metal germanique formé en 1984. Cette année, ils fêtent leurs 30 ans de carrière en dévoilant leur quinzième album studio « My God Given Right ». Mais ce dernier fait-il vraiment honneur à leur fabuleuse épopée musicale ?
Pour ma part, ma première réaction a été la déception… Mais après plusieurs écoutes, « My God-Given Right » c’est avéré plus satisfaisant qu’il ne le paraissait.
Reste selon moi deux problèmes majeurs : Le premier étant le manque de parti-pris. Après la dégustation du premier single « Battle’s Won », je m’attendais à du Happy Metal typique de leurs débuts. Ce n’est pas le cas, on passe sans cohérence de morceaux joyeux à des morceaux plus sombres dont certains pourraient rappeler « Gambling With The Devil » par exemple. Cela aurait pu marcher dans le sens ou il s’agirait d’un album « Hommage », qui retracerait quelque peu les différentes étapes de leur discographie. Aucune information ne m’indique que c’est le cas, et si cela l’est vraiment, je trouve l’ensemble confus. La seconde boule de poil à mon sens, est le manque global d’efficacité (Oui, cet album détient lui aussi le syndrome du single qui me séduit, mais le reste moins)… Certains refrains avaient un fort potentiel (Stay Crazy ou Lost In America) mais s’avèrent être peu savoureux. Cela est peut être du à une production trop propre.
Malgré ses points noirs, je suis revenu à l’album… Et il faut que je lui reconnaisse ses qualités : La principale étant sa créativité, notamment au niveau des rifts. On sent que les citrouilles n’ont pas chômer et on passer du temps sur leurs compositions, qu’ils se sont fait plaisir. Je l’entend, puisque l’humour est toujours présent !.
Au fond, on sait tous qu’attendre trop quelque-chose provoque généralement, la déception. Écoutez cet album pour ce qu’il est, donnez lui du temps. Je pense qu’il le mérite car l’intérêt musical est là. Après tout, peut importe la chanson qu’écrira aujourd’hui Helloween, ils n’ont plus rien à prouver et n’ont plus d’autre place à occuper dans mon cœur, que celle qu’ils occupent depuis déjà fort longtemps.

Helloween, est incontestablement une valeur sûre du Heavy Metal. C’est ce qu’on peut dire du nouvel opus « My God-Given Right ». A l’écoute des trois premiers morceaux, les fans sont partagés et les impressions sont mitigées. Mais le 15ème opus des légendaires allemands met tout le monde-ou presque- dans sa poche. On trouve des aires de ressemblances et des sonorités de déjà-vu mais les arrangements se différent donnant du « Heavy Metal » pur jus.
Irish band Follow My Lead have announced they parted ways with singer « Matt Foxx » in a long statement. The band has had a complicated story, like many. Mainly known because of its ex-singer’s covers on Youtube, the band had to recruit a new screamer before releasing their debut EP Sleepless before he left a few months after.
Last year they went into the studio to record their first album before announcing in December they got signed by Fearless Records when releasing their hit single « XIII ».
If you feel you can replace him, try! They’re currently looking for a new one.

It’ll probably be of no surprise to you, that something hasn’t been right in the Follow My Lead camp for some time now. We are aware there has been a lack of updates, new content and any information regarding our upcoming album. We really value every last one of you who supports and has supported our band, it truly means the world to us. It has been really hard for us to keep so much information from you and not to be able to give you sufficent updates. We feel that we have no other choice now than to come to you, our friends & family, with what’s been going on with us & why we’ve been so quiet.
We are currently in the market for a new vocalist, meaning yes, Matt is no longer a part of the band, and hasn’t been for a number of months now. This is due to personal/musical issues. More will be released regarding this in the future. This situation was sadly unavoidable, so for now, we need you all to trust us and to look forward. We have every intention of finding a new vocalist and releasing our album and many more in the future.
So that is why we have came to you! We have had no luck in these past few months finding the perfect replacement, so we are now advertising to all of you to help us find our new vocalist. Us four guys really have poured our heart & soul into our debut album, and it is such a shame it’s currently only instrumental.
People interested in auditioning to be our new vocalist: The new vocalist will be required to record vocals for our debut album with us, and the vocals will then be sent to Fredrik Nordstrom (Studio Fredman, Sweden) for mixing & mastering. We are really, stupidly, excited for you all to hear what we created last November in Sweden. Ideally candidates would be located in Ireland/Northern Ireland/UK and be able to travel to Belfast frequently, but we’re willing to talk over options if people further afield are interested so if you feel you might have something to offer please do get in touch. You must meet a certain standard of vocal performance (be capable of scream vocals & clean vocals), and be consistent.
We are not looking for someone to emulate Matt; we want to bring something fresh to our sound that you will hear in our album. If you have any previous vocal recordings / videos, be it original songs or covers, send copies or links over to “followmyleadofficial@gmail.com”. Include some information about yourself, what sort of person you are, your influences and anything you feel is relevant. As of right now, there is no due date set and any further information about auditioning will be announced on the Facebook page.
